Sick Today

20 Apr

I’m feeling really sick today. I’m cold to the bone, I can’t stop shaking, and I’m really dizzy. I feel very weak and nauseous, my whole body hurts, I’m running a fever, and I feel like if I stand up, I just may faint. I had blood drawn today, but they still haven’t called me about it. I’ve been so tired, too. I can’t get anything done today, but I was able to take a good nap, and I needed that. I also had some tea to warm up, but I still feel so so cold, and that’s with 5 sweaters, 3 pairs of socks, fuzzy pants and tights, and a space heater on. GAH I just wanna feel better, I have a miniboard exam to study for. When I get out of school next month, I will have been in school for 11 months straight. That’s why I’m so burnt out on studying.

Days Like These Are the Loneliest

17 Apr

There’s a really long exam tomorrow, which means I’m here with nothing to do (except study, which I’m clearly not) and no one to talk to, because they’re all actually studying. All alone. And it’s beautiful outside. It’s always beautiful outside the day before an exam. The weather taunts me sometimes.

Friday makes one year since my friend died. That’s also the day my dad gets his PET scan to basically see if the treatment worked. That’s the day after my exam, so I feel like once it’s over, I still can’t even relax. Then, the following Wednesday, I have an Anatomy/Embryology miniboard exam. Nope…no relaxing for me. At first, I thought it might be good…take my mind off of the recent bad news that I received. But I still can’t stop thinking about it, so now I can’t even study. I’m probably going to fail this exam.

I don’t know what to do, and I’m just feeling really lonely. I know I should be studying like everyone else, but I feel really mentally fatigued, and my classmates don’t get it. I mean I’m glad they don’t have to understand, but still…they don’t understand. My friend that died last April…she would have understood perfectly, I’m sure. She’s pretty much the reason I don’t give up completely.

More Success?

9 Apr

I did study last night, and cleaned too! Did half of what I wanted to do of each of those things, but half of each is progress. Then, I took a shower, and made myself something to eat. I think my stomach just gets cranky whenever I eat stuff now, though, and it pretty much just either kicks it back or lets me know it’s not pleased. However, I did lots of things! I felt really accomplished. I took an Ambien early, and was about to head to bed when…COCKROACHES IN MY BED!!! EW EW EWWWW!!! They replaced my fridge, and the roaches living behind my fridge (I guess) needed a new home, so they moved into my bed. GROSS. I didn’t sleep at my apartment. My friend picked me up and I (already on the Ambien) got to her place and stayed there. I still managed to fall asleep before 11:30, so overall, the day was a huge success! Today, however…I’ve been crying all day. I failed a quiz (HARD) and people will just not cut me a break. I feel like people are just being mean to me today!

Success!!

8 Apr

Today was the definition of a successful day.

  • Woke up, only cried once today for like 10 seconds max (that’s really good for me these days)
  • Got 100% on group Gross Anatomy quiz
  • Drank tea, studied, found out that I got into that Summer Research Program that I was rejected from earlier because 3 spots opened up!!!!! I’d already employed my backup plan and gotten into a breast cancer research lab, which should be publishing by the end of the summer. Sent out some emails, and it turns out that I can still work in that same lab, but through the Summer Research Program, so now I’m getting paid AND published this summer. Best of both worlds!! I called my mom and told her. She’s ecstatic!
  • Understood lecture (rare occurrence in this neuro pathways section)
  • Lunch: no nausea, cracked jokes
  • Lab: Followed along the entire time, finished early, went home
  • My fridge is fixed
  • I’m motivated to study, so I plan to do a little studying and a little cleaning. We’ll see how that goes!

Success Continued…

So I did clean and study! I didn’t completely finish either, but hey…it’s more than I’ve been doing, so whatever! I made myself something to eat for dinner and I took a shower, too. It seems like every single time I eat something, it gets kicked right back or my stomach just hates me for it. Besides that, today was a complete success. I took some Ambien, so I’m just sitting here ridin…except now there are ROACHES IN MY BED!! Sprayed them with Raid, they didn’t die, WTF!! Today was so good, and then roaches!! BOOO!!!! I’m going to Alex’s House.

I have a test on Tuesday, I’m super behind, and I feel too awful to really study!

28 Jan

I’m really attempting to study, I swear.

I don’t really wanna have it pushed back because I have 2 miniboard exams and OS2 exam 2 after that…plus a community health assignment. I knew all of this was coming up, and I’ve been over here like:

And here you see my poor, defenseless GPA, as OS2 only has 2 tests…

This has been a freakout. End of transmission.

In the Category of Good News…

19 Dec

I passed my biochem miniboard (that I didn’t really study for, shh), which means that I have officially passed my 1st semester of medical school! I needed that.

In fact, my entire M1 class passed, because we’re that cool.

My Grades for the semester are as follows:

  • Community Health: A
  • Fundamentals of Medicine: A
  • Basic Principles of Human Biology (Code for Biochemistry): B
  • Organ Systems I (The Bulk of Everything We Learned): C

The C in Organ Systems I can be raised to a B if I do well on the Physiology and/or Histology/Cell Biology Miniboards. I had a B in it the whole time, until I kinda failed the last test and got a C on the biochem miniboard. However, under the circumstances, I’m pretty darn proud of that C in OS1, thank you.
